Loose and sagging skin, jowls, and other effects of aging are often unavoidable. In some cases, these issues can be delayed or enhanced through advanced skincare techniques, but even the most diligent among us cannot avoid all of the aesthetic issues that come with aging.
PDO thread lift is a nonsurgical facial and neck rejuvenation treatment that can help lift and tighten the skin for a more toned and appealing look. During your initial consultation, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Andrea Doyle will listen to your concerns. Dr. Doyle will also fully assess your problem areas to help you determine if a PDO thread lift is the right fit for your needs.
Please call the Centre for Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery at 401.336.3770Â to schedule your consultation today. Located in East Greenwich, we welcome men and women from all surrounding areas of Rhode Island and Connecticut.
How Does a PDO Thread Lift Work?
A PDO thread lift helps to improve the appearance of the skin in two ways:
- Small threads are used to gently lift subcutaneous tissue
- Micro-injuries caused by the threads stimulate collagen production
The stimulation and production of collagen in the body helps the PDO thread lift provide lasting results. Polydioxanone (PDO) is an absorbable and flexible polymer. Over a period of about six months, threads made from this material will simply dissolve. The increased collagen production spurred by the threads will, however, continue to produce noticeable results – sometimes for several years.
What can PDO Thread Lift Treat?
A PDO thread lift can be used to address skin laxity and folds in the lower face and jaw. The procedure is very effective on:
- Jowls
- Nasolabial folds
- Fine lines and wrinkles
A PDO thread lift will not address issues around the eyes, but also in between the eyebrows, and throughout the forehead. There are several surgical and nonsurgical rejuvenation options that can be used to correct these signs of aging, and can be used in combination with a thread lift or on their own.
What is the PDO Thread Lift Procedure?
The PDO thread lift procedure is performed under localized anesthetic to ensure maximum comfort. While it is nonsurgical, (requires no incisions) thread lift will involve pulling sutures through the skin. The location of every suture is carefully planned and each location marked before the procedure begins to help ensure consistent and appealing results.
After you have been made comfortable and the precise location of each thread has been determined, PDO threads are inserted with a special needle before being drawn back out in an action that gathers and lifts underlying tissue. This action also stimulates the production of collagen, which provides structural support long after the sutures have been absorbed.
PDO threads come in a variety of textures, allowing the procedure to be customized to meet the exact needs of the individual.
Thread Lift Recovery & Aftercare
Recovery from a PDO thread lift is very short because the treatment is minimally invasive. Some redness and discomfort may be present throughout the treatment area for one to two weeks, but going back to work and resuming other non strenuous activities is typically possible within just one day.
Advanced exercises may need to be avoided for two to three weeks, depending on your comfort level. Most people are able to resume normal activities within a week. It is also important to avoid moisturizers on your face, saunas, sleeping on your side, and scrubbing or washing your face intensely. Doing any of these can irritate your skin and have a negative affect on your thread lift results.
Who is a Good PDO Thread Lift Candidate?
PDO thread lift improves the appearance of the jowls and lower face. It is ideal for men and women who are experiencing mild to moderate signs of aging.
Good PDO candidates must be nonsmokers who are willing to go without blood thinning herbs, supplements, and over-the-counter medications for a period of time before and after the procedure. Some prescription medications may interfere with candidacy as well, making it important that you provide your plastic surgeon with a full list of medications you are taking.
As a nonsurgical treatment, the PDO thread lift is safe and effective for a large number of people. The best way to learn if you are among them is through a consultation with a qualified plastic surgeon. Dr. Doyle will listen to all of your concerns, carefully evaluate the condition of your skin, and guide you towards the best solution for your needs.
