Aging is a fact of life, and it comes with many skin changes, from volume loss to deep lines and wrinkles. Dermal fillers are an excellent non-surgical way to combat signs of aging and are often called a “liquid facelift.” At the Centre for Aesthetic + Reconstructive Surgery, we offer a variety of dermal fillers to restore areas of the face that have lost volume as well as lines and wrinkles around the mouth, nose, and in the lips.

If you struggle with facial volume loss or moderate to severe lines and wrinkles, dermal fillers might be a great option for you. Schedule your one-on-one consultation with Dr. Andrea Doyle in East Greenwich today at 401.336.3770 to see which dermal filler will best achieve your desired results.

Your Dermal Filler Options

Each dermal filler is created to replenish and provide a youthful look to specific areas of the face. During your initial consultation, Dr. Doyle will discuss your cosmetic goals and evaluate the lines, wrinkles, folds, and shallow regions of your face to customize your dermal filler treatment. The goal is to provide natural-looking results that do not look overdone.

Most dermal fillers are made of Hyaluronic Acid, which is a molecule already produced by your body, but production decreases with age. Hyaluronic acid binds to moisture. It helps maintain plump, hydrated skin, and as it is a substance found naturally in the human body, there is little to no risk of complications or allergic reactions.

Dr. Doyle will determine the best dermal filler for your cosmetic concerns, as well as the number of syringes needed and the specific injectable location to achieve your desired outcome. Dermal fillers we offer at the Centre for Aesthetic + Reconstructive Surgery include:

  • Juvéderm® Dermal Fillers: Great for smoothing nasolabial folds, which are the lines around the mouth and nose as well as restoring lost volume to the cheeks and lips.
  • Restylane® Dermal Fillers: The Restylane® filler family offers a variety of benefits from smoothing “marionette lines” that extend from the sides of the mouth toward the chin to restoring volume to the cheeks, eyes, and mouth corners. The products include Restylane Lyft®, Restylane® Refyne, Restylane Defyne® (best for laugh lines), and Restylane Silk®.
  • Sculptra®: This filler is made of poly-L-lactic acid, which is biocompatible and replaces the facial fat loss that occurs with age. Sculptra® is best for shallow contours of the cheeks and eyes and marionette lines.

How Long Do Dermal Filler Treatments Take?

These treatments typically take less than an hour, require no downtime, and offer immediate, natural-looking results. Repeat sessions are required to maintain results. Some dermal filler treatments last a year or longer, while others last three to six months.

Dermal filler treatments should only be administered by a certified medical professional such as our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Andrea Doyle.

INTRODUCING REVANCE RHA REDENSITY + DAXXIFY

A new and long-awaited hyaluronic acid filler has arrived in our practice, and we are excited to introduce RHA Redensity to our patients.

What is RHA Redensity?

Redensity is an injectable hyaluronic acid dermal filler, similar in its makeup to fillers like Restylane and Juvederm. Redensity is part of the RHA family, with RHA standing for “Resilient Hyaluronic Acid.” The RHA collection of dermal fillers includes particularly dynamic fillers like RHA 2, RHA3, and RHA4, which shine in high-movement areas like the face. Redensity is the softest of the RHA fillers available in the United States, making it a good choice for superficial treatment of fine lines around the lips and the thin and delicate tissues around the eyes.

What Causes Skin Aging?

Youthful skin is typically associated with supple volume and beautiful skin tone and texture. There are two proteins found in your skin that promote youthful, taut skin: collagen and elastin. Collagen works to provide supple volume while elastin gives your skin the ability to “bounce back” from repeated facial expressions. That support system under your skin slows down as you get older, which begins around the age of 25. The decrease in these proteins cause changes in the distribution of fat in the face such as hollow or sunken cheeks and “jowling” where fat accumulates around the jaw.

Certain factors and lifestyle habits can accelerate these changes, such as extreme exercise and yo-yo dieting that cause sudden weight loss. Men and women that are very thin often struggle with significant facial volume loss because they had little fat, to begin with. Sun exposure contributes to the loss of collagen and elastin, and excessive exposure accelerates the aging process.

The hormone changes that occur around menopause also impact skin appearance and facial volume loss. The natural aging process affects your bone density and muscle mass in all areas of the body, altering the facial structure and fat distribution and giving a collapsed, gaunt appearance.

Everyday lifestyle factors also catch up to you and contribute to loss of volume and the development of lines and wrinkles, including your diet, smoking, stress level, alcohol intake, and lack of exercise.

Dermal fillers combat these signs of aging by restoring volume and promoting the production of collagen.
