Botox®

Dr. Andrea Doyle performs Botox injectable treatments at her Rhode Island plastic surgery practice for men and women wanting to soften the appearance of dynamic facial lines and wrinkles. Over time, your face begins to develop signs of aging such as crow’s feet or frown lines, the result of repeated facial contractions. If these lines and wrinkles are getting in the way of you feeling like your youthful and confident self, Dr. Andrea Doyle can help treat them with personalized Botox injections.

Who is Botox for?

Botox is a great treatment for anyone who is unhappy with his or her signs of aging, but who is not yet ready to undergo a more invasive procedure. Botox can help to smooth the appearance of dynamic lines and wrinkles such as crow’s feet and frown lines between the eyes. The treatment works by safely relaxing the underlying facial muscles and softening the expressions that cause the wrinkles to form.

In addition to treating lines and wrinkles, Botox can also be used for medical purposes such as muscle spasms, overactive bladder, or even excessive sweating. Dr. Doyle can discuss your Botox options and answer any questions you may have during your consultation.

How many BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments will I need?

You will only need one treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic to achieve desirable results. However, it is important to note that BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment only lasts for about three months. If you desire longer-lasting results, you will need maintenance treatments every few months.

At the Centre for Aesthetic & Reconstructive Surgery, we offer a range of nonsurgical options. Some take more than one treatment while others may require only one. The best way to learn how many treatments will be needed and at what intervals is through a one-on-one consultation with our board-certified plastic surgeon.

How long does it take to get a BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment?

It takes only a few short minutes to get BOTOX® Cosmetic injections. In fact, many people choose to have treatment performed over their lunch break.

BOTOX® Cosmetic requires little to no downtime, enabling you to return to your day as soon as treatment has been completed. While some redness, bruising, and swelling are possible, these things should not cause any complications and should self-resolve over the course of one to two weeks.

Are there any risks associated with BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments?

BOTOX® Cosmetic may cause bleeding, bruising, and swelling at the injection site. Infection is possible as well if the skin is not properly cleaned prior to treatment.

Issues specific to BOTOX® Cosmetic include headache and flu-like symptoms, muscle weakness, drooling, trouble speaking and swallowing, and breathing problems. While extremely rare, these side-effects are possible and should be brought to the immediate attention of Dr. Doyle.

BOTOX® was first approved by the FDA in 1989. Since that time, millions and millions of people have safely undergone treatment. Largely considered safe, BOTOX® Cosmetic is the most popular nonsurgical treatment in the United States with more than seven million treatments performed in our country every year.

Are BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments painful?

BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are incredibly quick. Many patients, even without topical anesthetic, report little to no discomfort. However, the treatment area can be numbed prior to injection if you are nervous.

Recovery from BOTOX® Cosmetic is negligible, with most people able to resume normal activities right away. Lingering discomfort is not expected with this treatment.

How can I prepare before getting a BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment?

To help prevent infection, we strongly recommend you wash your face with a gentle cleanser before your appointment and make sure your skin is free of makeup, moisturizers, and anything else that may impact results. We will also clean your skin prior to injections as one final safeguard against infection.

The Botox procedure

Botox treatments should only be performed by a certified professional to ensure beautiful results and avoid unnecessary complications. Dr. Doyle is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and experienced in performing non-surgical Botox injections.

Dr. Doyle will discuss your Botox treatment with you during your consultation. The number of units needed and the location of your injections will vary depending on the existing condition of your skin and your unique goals. Botox contains a purified botulinum toxin that causes the muscles to relax. Dr. Doyle will carefully administer each injection of Botox into the underlying muscle at the target area to soften the signs of aging.

Botox recovery and results

Botox treatments take just minutes to perform and with little to no downtime; in fact, you should be able to resume your daily routine immediately. Unlike dermal fillers, it will take some time to notice the full effects of Botox. You will notice improvements at about 3-5 days after your session with Dr. Doyle, but it will take a couple weeks to realize your full results as the treatment gradually smooths away lines and wrinkles.

The results of your Botox treatment can last for up to 3-6 full months. When you notice the lines and wrinkles beginning to come back, you can schedule a maintenance Botox treatment with Dr. Doyle. Some patients also choose to supplement Botox with dermal fillers for a liquid facelift.
