Keravive and Platelet Rich Plasma

Hair loss and hair thinning are incredibly common.

It is estimated that around 80 million Americans are currently experiencing hair loss – and it is not just men. 40% of people who experience hair loss are female, though two-thirds of males will experience some form of hair loss by the age of 35.

Hair loss is an unavoidable part of the aging process. It can also be the result of certain medications, genetics and family history, stress, general health, and more. Nearly everyone will experience some degree of hair thinning and hair loss as they age. It is when this loss becomes obvious or uncomfortable that seeking treatment becomes more compelling.

Thinning hair can indeed grow back, but it likely needs help. Under most circumstances, thinning hair will not simply grow back thicker on its own. This is where treatments like Keravive and PRP come into play.

Keravive is a three-step treatment designed to cleanse and nourish the scalp while also encouraging new, thicker hair growth. The product works by removing impurities from the scalp and hair follicles before growth factors, skin proteins, and peptides are used to enhance the strength and health of the hair.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a concentrate of plasma protein that is effective in stimulating the body’s natural healing response. It has also been shown to help stop hair loss and encourage healthy hair growth.

Studies have found that regular PRP injections over the course of a few months work to increase the average number of hair follicles. It may take several months for results to be noticeable, but PRP is a proven safe and effective option for the treatment of hair loss.

Both PRP and Keravive are in-office treatments, but neither will require anesthesia nor will they necessitate any downtime. We will provide you with instructions on how to prepare for treatment based on the type of service you are undergoing. This may include avoiding hairspray and gel, not smoking, and greatly reducing alcohol intake in the days leading up to treatment.

Our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Andrea Doyle, will work directly with you before your treatment to make sure are fully prepared.

There is no recovery period following hair loss treatment with Keravive or PRP. These are non-invasive treatments that do not result in lasting complications or discomfort.

There may be mild irritation at PRP injection sites for a few days following treatment. This should be minor and is not expected to interfere with your daily activities. Over-the-counter medications are typically enough to deal with any discomfort caused by PRP injections.

Maintenance treatments will be needed with both Keravive and PRP injections. These may be spaced several months apart, but will be necessary for continually pleasing results.

We strongly recommend taking care of your scalp and hair with the use of trusted and proven hair care products and, if you are treating hair loss with Keravive, daily use of the peptide spray will be important as well. All of this will be covered in greater detail during your time in our care.
