Crow’s feet are the wrinkles that extend horizontally from the outside corners of your eyes. Similar in appearance to the creased feet of crows, these wrinkles are dynamic, meaning they occur when facial expressions change and are not always visible. A natural and unavoidable part of the aging process, crow’s feet may be delayed through the use of sunscreen, sunglasses, and the avoidance of squinting. Still, they will eventually develop in most people.
Dynamic wrinkles are a result of collagen loss and consistent muscle contraction. Over time, as collagen levels deplete, the skin overlying frequently used muscles becomes less elastic, allowing underlying movement to pucker and crease the skin.
Relaxing the muscles underneath the skin helps to reduce this wrinkling, even when expressions change. For this purpose, wrinkle relaxers offer the best treatment for crow’s feet. Surgical options like blepharoplasty can help, but non-surgical treatments tend to provide the most consistent and reliable results.
Different Types of Wrinkle Relaxers
At The Centre for Aesthetic + Reconstructive Surgery, we are pleased to offer both BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® to treat dynamic wrinkles. The active ingredient in these products is the same, but the concentration and trace proteins in the formulations are slightly different.
BOTOX is more concentrated and spreads slower than Dysport. As a result, it can take up to one week for results from BOTOX to appear. On the other hand, Dysport diffuses faster than BOTOX and can produce results within two to three days.
While there are slight variations in the onset of initial results, both Dysport and BOTOX take around 12 days to reach their peak. Both will continue to produce results for three to four months, and the results from both can be maintained through routinely scheduled touch-up treatments. However, neither is ideal for every patient, making it important that you work with a qualified provider who can assess your needs to ensure the best solution is utilized.
Our caring and experienced staff have the training and background necessary to help our patients achieve the most pleasing outcomes.
