Believe it or not, the dog days of summer can actually be the perfect time to finally go for that breast augmentation procedure you’ve been thinking about. Breast augmentation can be a great excuse to get out of the heat and get ready to look fabulous for the upcoming season. Here’s a quick overview of everything you need to know about breast enhancement at the Centre for Aesthetic + Reconstructive Surgery.
Your Personal Consultation
The first step on your journey to realizing your ideal figure with a breast augmentation is your one-on-one consultation with Dr. Andrea Doyle. This is the time where you’ll discuss all of your concerns, questions, and goals. Dr. Doyle will take into account the size and shape of your chest, rib cage, as well as your current breast size to determine what implant will be best to complement your figure. For maximum benefit, she may also recommend opting for a concurrent breast lift to give you the full, perky bust you’re looking for.
Preparing for Surgery
Now that you’ve decided to go ahead, it’s time to start getting ready for your augmentation procedure. As with any surgery, it’s extremely important that you don’t smoke in the weeks before and after the operation, as smoking, and even vaping with e-cigarettes, can present a whole host of post-surgical complications. Alcohol consumption is also advised against since it can thin your blood. While this may be a tough task over the summer months, Dr. Doyle promises that it will be worth it in the end. Avoid aspirin and ibuprofen and opt for acetaminophen instead. Also, some herbal remedies may interfere with anesthesia so always tell Dr. Doyle about any and all of the vitamins and supplements that you are currently taking.
The Procedure and Recovery
Dr. Doyle performs breast augmentation surgery under general anesthesia at a nearby accredited hospital. She begins by making strategically placed incisions under each breast in order to conceal any noticeable scarring whenever possible. The chosen implants will be introduced either under or over the pectoral muscles and the incisions closed. From start to finish, the procedure only takes about one to two hours to complete.
Although each individual’s healing experience will be unique, most of Dr. Doyle’s breast augmentation patients are able to return to some light activities like taking the kids to school and running errands two or three days following surgery. After about five to seven days, most have returned to work and their normal routines. Of course, more taxing activities should be postponed until you are given the green light by Dr. Doyle.
