The type of breast implant you choose will have a decisive impact on the look and feel of your breast augmentation procedure. Because each woman is unique and each desire slightly different, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Andrea Doyle has opted to offer both silicone and saline options, enabling her to meet the varied needs and goals of each patient she sees.
If you have been considering breast augmentation in or around the East Greenwich area, please call Dr. Doyle at 401-336-3770 to schedule your consultation and learn which implant option is right for you.
Saline Breast Implants
Saline breast implants can be filled after they have been placed. This serves the dual benefit of allowing for a smaller incision and enabling last-minute adjustments to implant size. These are the only type of implants available to women under the age of 22.
Saline breast implants, when placed above the muscles of the chest, may feel less natural than their silicone alternatives. They may also be more likely to ripple, wrinkle, fold, bubble, or otherwise become aesthetically imperfect. They are also prone to deflation when ruptured. Newer, structured saline breast implants help to reduce the risk of many of these issues.
Silicone Breast Implants
Silicone breast implants look and feel more like natural breast tissue. Particularly the newer form-stable (‘gummy bear”) option, which has shown to hold both shape and size even after rupture. Silicone implants are more viscous and less likely to ripple, wrinkle, and suffer similar imperfections. This viscosity adds to their natural feel, making them ideal for above-the-muscle placement.
Silicone implants are pre-filled and may require a larger incision. They are not available to women under the age of 22.
