When talking about the common signs of aging, most people are usually referring to all of the typical evidence most easily noticed in the face. And it’s no wonder, since that’s the area we pay most attention to. But there’s another part of the body that’s a dead giveaway of your age—your hands. With volumizing injections with Restylane® Lyft, you can regain the fullness in your hands you had in your youth.
The Aging Hands
As we age, we lose volume in the back of the hands. This can lead to the appearance of tendons, wrinkles, and veins to become more pronounced. The lack of fullness can also cause the skin to become loose, crepey, and even make your hands have a skeletal look to them.
An Anti-Aging Lift
But you don’t have to live with this hand condition any longer. That’s because earlier in 2018, The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cleared the hyaluronic acid (HA)-based soft tissue filler Restylane Lyft for the correction of age-related volume loss in the back of the hands (medically known as the dorsal surface of the hand). Restylane Lyft is the first and only HA injectable to be approved by the FDA for restoring fullness to the back of the hands for patients over the age of 21.
How It Works
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the skin that helps provide fullness and elasticity. Unfortunately, the natural production of HA diminishes during the aging process, leading to a loss in volume while boosting the chance for lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin to appear. But just in the same way the Restylane Lyft rids your face of lines and wrinkles by restoring volume to the targeted areas, the hands can also benefit. When this filler is injected, it supplies a natural-looking boost of volume to the back of the hands.
The Procedure
While this filler works in the same way to counteract the signs of aging, injecting the Restylane Lyft solution into your hands is a little different than when applied to other areas like the midface. Instead of using a fine needle to introduce the filler into the underlying tissues, a long, thin cannula is inserted underneath the skin near the knuckles. This gives Dr. Doyle the ability to inject the hyaluronic acid into all of the necessary trouble spots without having to make a lot of injections. Hand treatments typically require two to four syringes for most patients.
A Long-Lasting Treatment
While this is a temporary solution to the visible concerns of aging hands, Restylane Lyft injections can last for up to two years. That means you can enjoy the all the benefits of rejuvenated, youthful-looking hands without having to take time out of your busy schedule every few months to come in for another procedure. But keep in mind that results may vary and everyone will have their own unique experience with this novel treatment.
